Push for an Islamic state

Filed under: Uncategorized — at 10:05 am on Tuesday, January 9, 2007

The front page of The Age reported today that there has been a Local push for an Islamic state.

The ultra-radical Muslim group Hizb ut-Tahrir, which is banned across most of Europe, will be holding a conference in Australia soon which will “promote support for an Islamic superstate.”

It strikes me that the only problem here is that The Age is presenting this as front page news. Moreover, the only reason that it is considered new worthy is because the perpetrators are Muslims. I’ve little doubt that similar calls are made quite regularly by socialists or white supremacists and so on – both of who probably have comparable membership levels (in in the 100s at best).

So now a particularly obscure group of nutters which a nominal membership base has front page coverage and the war on terror is given more fuel and we continue to be alert and alarmed and the Muslim community continues to be branded as a terrorist one.

this moslem mob are probably more dangerous than white supremacists of the ‘local nutter’ type because of support from an international base. if, for this reason, or none, the age wants to talk about them- why not?

not your newspaper, so just stop buying it if you don’t like their policies. on the other hand, just reading media you like is not very productive.

Al, the “just stop buying it” argument is old and tired. The Age is the best daily newspaper in Melbourne and I generally quite like it but obviously reserve me right to criticise it and and as you say only reading media you like is not very productive.

As for the international base of the people referred to in this article, they have no significant base here in Australia and the claims they have made are clearly absurd.
